One report says it was probably suicide. Another report states the story he was robbed and killed and thrown into the river. He was returning to Germany to claim his inheritance and had had a large sum of money on him. He was a merchant in Quedlinburg until 1848 when he came to Texas. He was married there January 24, 1855 to Mary Louise Theilepape born at Wabern near Fritzlar, Ber. She was the daughter of George Julius Thielepape, forester and surveyor and Bertha Koch - aunt of Dr. Robert Koch.
