522 John COPLEY , 1875 Manchester, 1950 London, [I7374], artist, portrait painter , N: Lithographer, Influenced by Ford Madox Brown, John took up lithography, creating 251 prints between 1906 and 1938.
He aided Joseph Pennell establish the Senefelder Club in 1909 and became honorary secretary from 1910-1916.
He spent a long time with Ethel in Italy beginning 1925 to escape the cold British climate which was aggravating his heart condition.
He exhibited extensively at Cooling Galleries, Goupil Gallery and RBA and received awards at an international exhibition at the Chicago Art Institute in 1930.

 Ethel Leontine GABAIN «aus 1243» , 26.03.1883 le Havre, France, 30.01.1950 London, [I2874], N: Slade School of Art, Central school of Arts and Crafts, London, French/English artist and printmaker known for her female oil portraiture , N: an artist and printmaker, Ethel, who lost a hild in the war, painted another child in her well-known “A Child Bomb Victim Receiving Penicillin Treatmentâ€?.
Known for her portraiture, Ethel was appointed an official war artist in 1940, painting evacuees before turning to the depiction of women in traditionally mals occupations. she proiduced 264 lithgraphs>; her husband some 194.
She was elected to the Royal Society of Britsh Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
