A year later he began production of tobacco in the city of Sao Felix in a small factory. By the end of the 1870’s, he had become a very successfull producer of cigars. By 1912, the company had approx. 4000 employees in 4 factories.In the 1920’s, the company merged with Stander & Co. Today one of the attractions in Sao Felix is the Centro Cultural Dannemann along the riverfront.
Geraldo founded the residential area Littenweiler, now part of Freiburg/Breisgau at the edge of the Black Forest. He went to Germany often because of ill health and other reasons. He built many houses some of them are still in one street built 1911.
He also founded a hospital for wounded soldiers. One street is named Dannemann Street.
