1050 | Ricardo (Richard) FISCHER
, 1855 Leipzig, Germany, Cabo Raso, Argentina?, [I7449], N: a sailor and pohtographer, founder of Estancia Cabo Raso, In 1888, Richard came from Bremen to an islolated land ( Argentina) full of Indians and “guanacos (a kind of camel), according to Jose Luis Corres, “Poppe Family History March 18, 2009, Buenos Aires. Once settled in Cabo Raso, he brought a lady there named Grundkoetter from Bremen in one of his yearly trips to the Fatherland. Together they had some nine offspring. All of them were born on the ranch and I presume they lerned to read and write also in Cabo Raso but as far as I know, once they grew older they were sent to Germany ( Bremen) ... all of this is stemming from what I can recall from the pictures I’ve seen some years ago. Cabo Raso is in Patagonia and almost a desert. This guy Richard created a sort of an oasis full of pine trees, a swimming pool, a large shearing warehouse, etc. The first time I spent a couple of days there (abt 1973) everything ws amazing for me; There was a big library with plenty of ancient books written in German -in Gothic calligraphy-, French and English, very antique furniture, first quality German cookware, a big German stove, etc but what I enjoyed the most were those photo albums!!! They represented a very clear story of the family. What really surprised me was to find several pictures of a barbecue gathering in the Estancia Cabo Raso woods with a large crew (50-60 people) of the German Navy dated in 1942. | ||
