A Joh. August Koch arrived in Cape Town 1837/38. He offered his services as surgeon in a local newspaper. He later moved to Paarl and married a Catharina Dorethea Koster and they had 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter. August who stayed behind in SA made several loans from a Mr. Martiensen whih was later paid back according to her final liquidation and distribution document in the Cape Town archives. This makes sense as there would have been a family connection. Martiensen being the husband of Joh. August’s daughter from his first marriage.�

Around early 1860 her husband left SA for Germany with his daughter and never returned.
Catharina stayed behind in SA and made several loans from a Mr. Martiensen which was later paid back according to her final liquidation and distribution document in the Cape Town archives. Mr. MARTIENSEN was the husband of Joh. August Koch’s daughter from his first marriage.
The same obvious family connection also surfaces in the final liquidation account of Catharina Dorothea Koster in the Cape Town archives.
