He worked on radar at the MIT Radiation Laboratory during WW II and was then professor of physics at Harvard University. In 1966, he received the National Medal of Science.
He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1977 for adding to the understanding of the behavior of electrons in magnetic, noncrystalline solid materials.
John was at the Institute for Advanced Studies where he worked with many of the world's famous physicists of the time.
His theoretical work led to the establishment of the Los Alamos Laboratories in NM.
Today he is considered the "Father of Modern Magnetism".
