In this database, the baptismal registers (in part also copies) of St. Peter's Cathedral from the period 1669 - 1811 with a gap from 1733 - 1749 have been evaluated. The cathedral was the only Protestant Lutheran church during this period, while the other churches in Bremen were Protestant Reformed. Here is an excerpt from issue 11/p.2 of the “Blätter der Maus”. (The old series of “Blätter der Maus” from issues 1-11 is available for reading under RESEARCH/Publications).

Please note the following when searching for names in the database: Only where there is a specific date of birth or baptism for a person can you use the arcinsys signature below in the detailed view of the person to go directly to the corresponding church register where you can find the baptism entry.
The baptism dates were supplemented by the marriage dates of the respective parents, which, as the above-mentioned excerpt from booklet 11 “Blätter der Maus” shows, had to be searched for in the other parishes, if they had taken place in Bremen at all. Occasionally, death dates are also included. Due to sometimes very different spellings of names, some families can be found in two or even three representations, because links were not always made.

Overall, this database provides an overview of the Lutherans living in Bremen in the period mentioned. It should also be noted that some families had some of their children baptized in the cathedral and others in one of the other churches, probably when one parent was a Lutheran and the other a Protestant.

The above-mentioned gap from 1733-1749 can be partially filled by a baptism book that was kept from 1746 onwards. This book was lost for a long time and has not been included in the database. Like most Bremen church registers, it is now available in the Arcinsys archive portal (ext. link to Arcinsys), as are the two oldest cathedral baptismal registers from 1642-1644 and 1645-1668, which were also not analyzed.
