This unique book, handwritten by Dr. Heinrich von Spreckelsen, initially treasurer of the association since 1975 and book keeper since 1982, “serves the purpose of collecting the names of the inhabitants of the city of Bremen at the time of the mid-18th century”, as the author writes in his foreword. It goes on to say: “In this way, the name index covers almost all the people who headed their own households in the city in 1745. Researchers who wish to use this book should take the time to read the preface carefully in order to understand the entries correctly.
