There are address books for the city of Bremen from 1794 to 2002, which have been digitized by the Bremen State and University Library - currently up to 1980 - and placed on the Internet.
The first address book appeared in 1790, published by the publisher Caspar Hinrich Schreiber, but they have only been preserved since 1794. There were no address books from 1943 to 1947 inclusive, in 1948 there was one with limited content, and it was not until 1950 that it appeared again with a residents' section.
The contents of the address books have changed repeatedly over the years, as can be read in “Zur Geschichte der Adressbücher” by Adolf E. Hofmeister, Bremen 1989.
