The oldest surviving church records in Bremen are the baptism and marriage registers of St. Ansgarii parish, which began in 1581, and the baptism register of Unser Lieben Frauen parish, which began in 1583. The majority of Bremen church records kept since then are now archived in the Bremen State Archives. An overview of the holdings available there and in the Lower Saxony State Archives can be found under ‘Parishes and records’.
Under ‘Baptisms’, ‘Marriages’ (in progress) and ‘Burials’, you will find indexes of some church records that were created in the past by various MAUS members. There are no plans to index all of the digitized records that are now available. To make it easier to navigate the church records, tables of contents created by Heinz Wiemann and his team are displayed.
