This village and that of Pys were occupied in February 1917 following the German withdrawal to the Hindenburg Line and retaken by them in March 1918 but recovered by the English in August of that year. Vis-en-Artois is a village on the main road from Arras to Cambrai about ten kilometers southeast of Arras.
