Jean was able to buy his daughter Marie the Chateau Hautecloque, near Arras, France, and other land. This castle is found near Herlincourt. Surely this was a valuable acquisition since it may have been owned previously by one of his ancestors. His eldest son Michiel was the owner of the Castle d'Haut in Jenlain near Valenciennes, and his son Claude, the father of the Herlyns in Germany and the United States, owned several farms and land near Lille, France. By the year 1600, his family and descendants had spread over ten different locations, as his testaments shows.
