He lost his first wife and their two children very prematurely in there; then remarried a cousin who passed away in December 1860. He then moved to Brownsville, Texas, where he was a merchant. 21000 Germans had settled there. He owned 3/4 parts of the barque ‘Meteor’ (see notes concerning his brother Christian Wilhelm P.)

	Caroline POPPE , 14.12.1825 Kirchlengern, Germany, 26.10.1853 New York, NY, 05.07.1854 Brooklyn, Greenwood Cemetery, [I4543], N: Homemaker; Mother of two, Note of Emil Carsten Poppe, Brooklyn. Maiden name unknown. According to a Burial Inquiry Result of the Green-Wood Cemetary, Brooklyn, New York, dated 1.1.2004, CAROLINE is buried in Section12, Lot 8266. Date of Interment 5.7.1854. One can assume that she was buried anew in Green-Wood after being interred elsewhere before. Gustavus W. Poppe, son of Gustav Poppe and his wife Caroline, is buried the same day in the same lot and section.
